Real Fruit

7/13/21

For the past few days my social media has reflected multiple accounts and opinions of Tabatha Brown's response to Wendy Williams. Normally I try to stay away from what's "trending" but I must share my thoughts on this. I'm not focused so much on her response but the fact that it seems to be a rare response. How Tabatha replied should be the posture and position of anyone who calls themself a believer. She reflected the character found in Galatians 5:22-23  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

What concerns me is how this seems to be unique when it should be the standard. Proverbs 15:1 says, "A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger." Sadly, the latter part of this verse is endorsed, encouraged and applauded. The idea of clap back seems to be the norm, and this should not be the posture and response of those who are to reflect the image and likeness of Christ. Tabatha did not meet Wendy where she was, she met Wendy where she desired her to be. She saw beyond the words and heard the condition of her heart. She was moved with compassion and not her flesh.

Compassion is defined as the sympathetic consciousness of others' distress together with a desire to alleviate it. May we adjust our standard and truly began to reflect who we claim to serve. May this not be an anomaly but the norm and the expected. May we shift from representing God in word only but truly begin to reflect His character. May we be the Light that continues to shine in darkness. May we like Christ be those who are moved with compassion and bring healing to those who are hurting. May we begin to understand the power we have with our words and operate responsibly knowing the carry the power of life and death.
