New Tables
Yesterday morning when I woke up I heard, "The teacher has now become the student." I pondered on it for a while but knew there was more to it. Well, I went to lunch with two University professors and learned how true that statement is. Though I'm preparing to teach others, there is a new classroom of learning for me.
During the conversations there were words said that I never heard before. There were statements made that I was unfamiliar with, but I kept listening. I knew when to speak and when to learn. At times I really wanted to pull out my phone and look up words on Webster Dictionary but I didn't. I learned one of the women I was dining with has 2 Bachelors's, 2 Masters, and 1 Ph.D. Can I say how thankful I was to be at this table? We shared, we learned, we laughed and we are planning our next outing.
I now understand I will be sitting in two seats, student and teacher and I gladly embrace both. I know those with whom I'm building a new community with will have much to teach me, and my students will also bring life lessons as well. When you elevate make sure it's not only your position but your mindset. If you find yourself in a similar season use these concepts:
1. Listen to Learn
2. Silence is a form of engaging
3. Being teachable is a beautiful posture
4. Others knowing more doesn't disqualify you from the table
5. Always be your authentic self
I'm super excited for this new space and all that it will bring to enhance, challenge, and transform me. My journey has afforded me a lot but this feels like a different type of richness that has nothing to do with money. I will glean and receive all that I possibly can and will walk from each table well nurtured and well-fed.
